Oh, it's just about usage of regressive analysis as a predictor for both the prediction and error modeling in grayscale image compression. I've improved this approach drammatically since I wrote this paper and submitted a new paper to EUSIPCO, 2000. Now I use a set ot predictors and achieve a worth results (at least, significantly better, than CALIC).
